I was out wandering and discovered this place. Beautiful trails through the woods and the prairie. The house and gardens were amazing and everything was well kept. It was fun learning the history of Gene Stratton-Porter and enjoying being out in nature. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

We are supposed to be related by marriage. Our Grandmother was a Porter. The only reason we had a little wait is because we wanted a tour of the home. Meanwhile you can walk the beautiful property at no cost. The gentleman that gave our tour was very informative. We learned so much from him. Gene was the first woman to do many things in her time. What a view she had from any side of her home.

The tour guide is engaging and knowledgeable. The house and Stratton-Porter's history are really fascinating! And the grounds are gorgeous and relaxing. I'd recommend frequent visits to see the different foliage and garden flowers; they're very different each season.

Nice place to spend an hour or two. Decent outside trails as well as an internal tour of Gene’s house. I wish the other floors were open as it is a really cool house. But alas, fun nonetheless.

We first visited Gene Stratton-Porter's home in Geneva, IN, and couldn't wait to see this home in Rome City, IN. It was such a nice day for a stroll through the woods. We enjoyed her flower garden and the lovely view of Sylvan lake through her huge picture window. Gene was well ahead of her time with forward thinking and being an independent woman. She was a writer and a self taught photographer. When she didn't approve of how her books were made into a movie, she became the first woman to own her own movie production company, and then produced her own movies. It was interesting hearing more about her life and family. Gene's love of nature almost becomes a central character in her books. Be sure to check what times and days tours are being given. We almost missed the last one for the day. And we would have been so disappointed! Well worth our time.
