I had a great experience working with Berg Jewelry designing an engagement ring for my now-fiance'. I now live in Louisiana (from SL originally), but always knew I wanted to go back to Steve Berg and his staff to design any and all jewelry I would purchase. They did a fantastic job working with me from afar and I couldn't have asked for anything more. My fiance' gets compliments all the time on the design and she absolutely loves the ring designed by Berg Jewelry. The part I enjoyed the most was knowing I got a truly original design which was unique and not something ordinary that you'd find in any chain jewelry store.

There are few things I have absolutely no patience for, among them being: The entire car buying experience, telemarketers, black jelly beans, the whole Ugg boots with short skirts look, The entire Twilight series, The "band" One Direction, the smell of burning hair, stepping foot inside of a jewelry store, et cetera. I could elaborate ad nauseam on any one of these annoyances.

When one of these despised scenarios turns out to be not as terrible as I fully expected going into it, I feel compelled to tell someone. First, why my hatred for jewelry shopping? When was the last time you talked to someone at a jewelry story and they ACTUALLY listened? I don't mean they simply fielded your question and pointed you in the direction towards the merchandise you were interested in. I'm referring to the person who listens to what you already have, what your tastes are, what you NEED, what you WANT, what you EXPECT out of a piece, and could take this information as a whole and apply it to not only what they have on hand, but what is accessible to them. This is where Berg Jewelry comes into play.

I met Steve from Berg Jewelry following a devastating Iowa football loss to Wisconsin, which was due to horrific clock management in the fourth quarter, shocking, I know. But, I digress. I believe conversation was facilitated by my exquisite "No Shave November" mustache. Conversation quickly shifted to the watch on my wrist, as I assume Mr. Berg had to divert his gaze from the disgusting lip sweater I was sporting on my face. I haven't had a reason to purchase jewelry in the traditional sense (rings, necklaces) for quite some time. It may come as a shock to you, the reader, but I am not what one may consider smooth with the XY chromosome carrying population. That said, my watches are beloved to me. Steve seemed like a genuinely nice guy and at the close of conversation, casually offered his services, in the event I found myself needing anything new.

Admittedly, some time has passed since this meeting. I have discovered my love for obnoxiously large dialed watch faces has become an annoying hindrance while trying to wear motorcycle gloves. Not wearing a watch is not an option for me, I feel naked without one, so don't even ask. And yes, I realize my phone has a clock on it, it's not the same, nor as convenient when you're cruising through the countryside. So, I called Steve. Steve didn't happen to have the exact watch I was looking for in stock, so he didn't hesitate to order it. Not only did he order it for me, but he's shipping it to my doorstep for my convenience, as I now live clear across the state (Davenport, IA). That's customer service.

Why do I love Berg Jewelry? They listen (see above). They respect a budget (this essentially falls under listening as well, but deserves a special nod). I cannot tell you how frustrated I get when a jewelry store takes the maximum amount you're comfortable spending and tries to make that your budget starting point. That's plain disrespectful. No purchase is too small to garner their undivided attention. They're a local, family-owned business. Their very livelihood depends on their customer service and their ability to draw repeat customers. You will never encounter an employee who appears disinterested in the customer and therefore the survival of the business as you may experience at the big name stores. They are not a massive chain with huge advertising costs, shipping out elaborate books for every pseudo-holiday. Their prices are fair, trust me, I have plenty of options here in the Quad Cities.

Eventually, I may find a special someone special to buy something from Berg's for. In the meantime, I'll continue to spoil myself. Either way, you better believe I'll be using Berg Jewelry.
